DESCRIPTION: We are hiring an Assistant Grower to work with the farmer in all aspects of vegetable production from greenhouse management, to transplanting and seeding, cultivation, weeding, irrigation, harvesting, wash/pack, CSA distribution, farmstand staffing, fertility management, pest management, and more. This position is most suited to someone who has acquired the knowledge base to work both collaboratively with the farmer on problem solving and ongoing management of crops as well as on one’s own. This is a great season to be a part of the farm’s development as we implement plans to include, in addition to our ongoing CSA farm share program, a new farm kitchen for processing unique farm products and increased on-farm sales.
Our vegetable production is highly diverse with intensive planting, rotations, and succession scheduling of 40-50 different vegetables and over 200 varieties of vegetables, flowers and culinary herbs. We are a predominantly hand-tended operation with regenerative, low-till and no-till practices. A CSA members’ cutting garden of flowers and herbs, berries for CSA u-pick and farm value-added processing, recent plantings of other native plants, and beehives complement the diversity of the farm’s eco-system.
The position runs from April through October, 30+ hours per week at $15.00/per hour. A housing option may be available – please inquire if interested.
*Must be available for entire time frame of position.
*Have worked in vegetable, greenhouse, or other horticultural production for 2 or more seasons.
*Comfortable working in a quiet setting with a small staff/crew.
*Have the physical stamina and love to work outdoors all day, can lift 50 lbs., and can work in all kinds of weather conditions with good humor.
*Able to find joy in both repetitive tasks as well as more creative tasks.
*Accept pressure and urgency as a part of the reality of farming as well as wonder, awe, and curiosity.
*Appreciate beauty and aesthetics as a part of the experience and responsibility of growing food, as well as when producing it for others.
*Have your own transportation and a valid driver’s license.
*We will be compliant with any guidance for COVID-19 that may be in place and/or evolve during the course of the season for the safety of all who work at the farm or purchase the farm’s produce or products.
